Common Questions About Vision Boards
Before we get to how to host a vision board party, let’s get some of the basics out of the way (you might need to explain these ideas to party guests who aren’t familiar with what vision boards are or how they work)…
What Is A Vision Board?
A visualization board or vision board is simply a visual collection of quotes, pictures, photos, powerful words, and personal affirmations that represent the goals, desires, and dreams you have for your life. It could also be called a dream board or a goal board.
Although vision boards have been around for a long time they were popularized by “The Secret”, a book and movie that explored the Law of Attraction.
What Are The Benefits Of Vision Boards?
The benefits of vision boards are many! One of the biggest benefits is that your vision board helps to clarify your goals, dreams, and desires. By having a vision board to look at every day you will physically be able to see exactly what you would like to achieve and manifest in your life. This helps you to stay focused and steadily work towards your goal. Your visualization board will also help you to stay motivated, focused, and enthusiastic even if things start getting a bit rough.
But, Do Vision Boards Work?
Yes, many believe that they do! It is believed that vision boards work because they turn your dreams, goals, and desires into something tangible. And because you have poured your time, thoughts, energy, and creativity into creating your vision board each idea becomes even more real!
Visualization boards also work because they allow you to focus on each goal allowing you to feel the joy and excitement that will come when you achieve them.
The law of attraction says that what you focus on and give your attention to you will attract into your life. A vision board helps you to stay on track and keep you motivated and encouraged. It forces you to think about what you want in life instead of what you don’t want.
Why Is Visualization So Powerful?
Visualization techniques have been an incredibly popular tool in sports for decades. As part of their training, athletes visualize themselves training and competing in their respective sports before actually doing so physically which increases their performance.
A study called “From Mental Power To Muscle Power – Gaining Strength By Using The Mind” found that visualizing doing exercises in your mind was almost as effective as the physical exercises themselves.
This is good news for us because the exact same principle applies to normal, everyday people like us! We just have to take advantage of it!
Vision boards are a tool to help you easily visualize your goals and this is what makes them so powerful.
Not convinced? I found the following YouTube video that explains exactly how powerful visualization techniques are.
How To Plan A Vision Board Party Or Workshop
And now without any further ado, this is how you would go about planning a vision board party for groups of all sizes.
There are quite a few things to think about if you would like to host a vision board party. Here are a couple of things to consider:
Space – Choose a comfortable and spacious room or area where you can host your vision board party. Do you have a big enough table for people to work around? A dining room table would work really well for this! How many chairs will you need? Is it an option to work on the floor if you decide to host a kid’s vision board party?
Guests – Who are you planning to invite to your vision board party? There are so many different groups of people you could consider – family, friends, work colleagues, women’s groups, garden clubs, book clubs, women’s ministries, entrepreneurs, or community groups.
Who To Invite To Your Vision Board Party
When planning your guest list, consider how many people you can comfortably host and how they will connect as a group. Think about guests’ hobbies and interests, professions, age groups, and whether they are introverts or extroverts. Everyone should feel comfortable and happy to share.
Invite positive people who will help you create a space where everyone will feel comfortable enough to share. If you know for example that Aunt Lucy simply cannot stand being in the same room as Cousin Sharon, it might not be the best idea to invite them both to your vision board party!

Vision Board Party Invitations & Flyers
Depending on the group of people you are inviting and how elaborate you want to go, you can either go for traditional flyers or posted vision board party invitations or digital ones. Remember to include important details on the invitation such as whether you would like your guests to bring specific things such as scissors, glue sticks, or magazines with them.
Music
Music adds to the mood of any occasion. Create a playlist with inspirational, uplifting music. You could also ask your guests to send you a list with a couple of their favorite songs that you could add to your playlist.
Vision Board Party Menu, Snacks, and Drinks
Your menu can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like – bear in mind that if your guests will be snacking and drinking while making their boards then finger foods that aren’t too messy would be your best bet!
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Crackers
- Crisps
- Cheese
- Dips
- Cookies
- Tea/coffee
- Scones
- Cupcakes
- Wine
- Non-alcoholic drinks
Along with your food and drinks, you will need to plan for any extra crockery, cutlery, glasses, mugs, etc, that you might need.

Guest speaker
If you want to go the extra mile for your guests, you could always consider arranging a guest speaker to come to your vision board party. This is a great idea especially if you are hosting a vision board workshop where you will have more people with most likely a common set of goals.
For example, if you are hosting a vision board party for people you train with from your gym or sports club, you could invite a health and fitness guest speaker to join you for added inspiration!
Budget – How Much Does A Vision Board Party Cost?
This very much depends on how big you’ve decided to go! If you have a tight budget, you can always include your guests in your planning.
For example, asking each guest to bring magazines that can be shared with everyone is a great way to cut costs and bring more variety to your vision board party.
You could also ask each person to bring their own scissors or glue sticks, for example. Just remember to always have spares on hand in case someone forgets something.
In addition to asking guests to bring some of their own vision board supplies, you could also ask them to bring a small plate of finger foods to share, or maybe even their favorite drink. Many people really don’t mind bring-and-share parties so don’t feel embarrassed to ask if you need to!
If you have decided to ask your guests to bring items with them, it would be a good idea to send a reminder to them a couple of days before the party so they don’t forget.
If you are hosting a vision board workshop, then you might want to consider charging a fee to cover your costs. After all, you might need a bigger space, more equipment, food, drinks, etc. Don’t be afraid to add a fee to your workshop, many people are happy to pay because these types of events are a great way for them to network and meet people they might not otherwise have had the opportunity to.
Vision Board Party Ideas & Themes
Do you love the idea of going above and beyond when you host parties? Vision board parties are no different! You can choose a theme and a party name based on the guests you would like to attend.
For example, if you are hosting a vision board party for exhausted new moms, you could host a “New Moms Vision Board Pamper Party”. Fluffy slippers and robes combined with scented candles and relaxing music could be the perfect combination to help relax and inspire new moms. And, you could even create wonderful pamper packs that each mom can take home with them along with their newly created vision board! Expand on this idea depending on the group of people you are hosting.
They say that giving is better than receiving so another great idea is to ask your guests to bring items that could be donated to places in need.
For example, if you are hosting a vision board party for your book club, you could ask each person to bring along a second-hand children’s book that you could donate to a local school.
Another way to make your vision board party special is to gift journals to each of your guests! Check out our range of personalized journals where you can add any text to the cover of our journals which come in many different colors so you are sure to find something you like!

How To Host A Vision Board Party
Now that you are all set to go, how do you go about leading your vision board party?
Vision Board Party Icebreakers
Isn’t it the worst when you attend a party and you don’t know anyone there? It really can be a little scary and intimidating! As the host of the vision board party, it is up to you to make sure your guests feel comfortable and relaxed.
A great way to do this is to set the tone by introducing people as they arrive, especially if the group isn’t going to be too big. Have a list handy of general info on each person so that when you introduce someone to the group you can also give a couple of points on them. If you need to, make sure that each guest is happy with the info you will share.
I’ve read many articles that say you should allow each person to personally introduce themselves but I think this very much depends on the type of people you are hosting. Some people find it awkward and intimidating to stand up and tell strange people about themselves and you really want to create an atmosphere where people are comfortable and relaxed. By personally introducing people as they arrive it will take some of the pressure off them, especially if they are more introverted. There will be plenty of time to share later during the party if they would like to.
Begin with snacks and drinks while you wait for everyone to arrive. This will give guests the opportunity to chat and get to know each other if they haven’t met before. Once everyone has arrived it is time to get the ball rolling!
Full Introductions
Ask your guests if they would like you to do full introductions or if they would like to introduce themselves. If you are hosting a vision board party for entrepreneurs, small business owners, non-profit organizations, or community groups then this is a fantastic time for each person to introduce their businesses or organization to the group. Many valuable networking opportunities and friendships are created this way!
The Purpose Of Your Party
Not everyone knows about vision boards or dream boards or how they work so now is your time to introduce the idea to them if they aren’t sure.
Explain what vision boards are and how they work
Explain the benefits of creating a vision board and how you would use it as a tool to work towards achieving your goals and desires. Use the answers from the questions up at the beginning of the article to help you.
Remind your guests not to limit themselves by giving way to self-limiting ideas.
Explain how there is no right or wrong way to create a board and rather that the boards should inspire them and reflect their goals and aspirations.
A great way to get the creative juices flowing is to ask your guests to imagine a scenario where money is no object at all!
For example, if they had to win the lottery, what would they do? The pictures, quotes, and words they choose should reflect the abundant resources they have in this scenario and each item they choose for their board should help them visualize their successes.
Planning Your Vision Board
Depending on who you have invited and the theme of your party, you could either create vision boards that cover all aspects of your guests’ lives. Alternatively, you could focus on one specific theme such as:
- Career
- Success
- Finance
- Relationships
- Home
- Family
- Travel
- Personal Growth
- Education
- Spirituality
- Health
If you have small notebooks handy you could ask your guests to jot down any goals, plans, desires, aspirations, or positive things they would like to include on their board. Brainstorming and thinking about these things before beginning will help each person to clarify what they would like to include on their boards.
Get Cutting
And now, the fun part! Once everyone has a better idea of what they would like to include on their dream boards it is time to pull out the magazines and get cutting. Each person should find pictures and words that speak to them and inspire them. The pictures should reflect their goals and dreams and ideally, they should resonate with each person.
Creating a Vision Board
Once everyone has their quotes, images, and words ready it is time to lay everything out on to the poster board. I’m a big believer in getting the creative juices flowing and including everything and anything on the poster board that creates positive happy feelings and excitement even if that means the board isn’t as neat and tidy as it could be.
Get creative and make it fun!
For example, if someone is hoping for financial abundance, why not use actual money on the vision board? Or create a check showing the amount of money they would like to have! Here is an example from The Secret website. Simply fill out the name and the amount of money to manifest!
If someone is hoping to travel, include items such as plane tickets, photos, or even objects from the country they would like to visit. Even using things like pressed flowers, feathers, leaves or shells can bring some creative flair to your board. Once everything is arranged then it is time to start gluing everything to the boards.
Mission Accomplished
Once everyone has completed their boards you could ask whether they would like to give the group feedback about the board that they have created, explaining why they chose specific pictures or items.
A great way to finish off the day is to take pictures of each board. This coupled with a few final drinks and snacks!
Idea! Before going home, consider asking whether your guests would like accountability partners. Accountability partners are a great way for your guests to encourage and support each other once your party is over.
Conclusion
A vision board party or workshop is an amazingly fun way to connect with family, friends, colleagues and even to make new friends! They allow you to network with like-minded people in a fun, relaxed, supportive environment.
Remember, there is never a wrong way to host a vision board party, and because your party or workshop is based around the ideas of positive things, positive thinking, positive energy, dreams, goals, and ambitions you will find that most people will have a wonderful time so don’t overthink it too much!
