    What Colors Make Gray?

The simplest way to make the color gray is by mixing black and white together in equal amounts. For lighter shades of gray, add more white while for darker shades you can use more black.

However, gray can also be made by mixing primary colors such as red, blue, and yellow. But it isn’t just primary colors that you can use, you can also use complementary colors (colors that are on opposite sides of the color wheel). Complementary colors include red and green, blue and orange, or yellow and purple. The shade of gray will change depending on what colors you use as the base.

This is handy to know if you would like to make gray without using black or white!

Interesting Fact! Both “grey” and “gray” are the correct spellings of the same word, and they can be used interchangeably. However “grey” is more commonly used in British English, while “gray” is more commonly used in American English.

    Gray Color Codes

Let’s go ahead and look at how gray color codes are made and what they look like.

    Gray Hex Codes

Each shade of gray has its own unique gray hex color code. The hex codes are six-digit codes that represent each color and are displayed in the following format: #RR,GG,BB.

By combining different amounts of red, green and blue you change the color you are creating.

The gray hex code is #808080.

    Grey RGB Codes

Just like hex color codes, grey RGB codes also represent the amount of red, green, and blue in a color. However, RGB codes are displayed in the following format: RGB(RR,GG,BB).

The grey RGB color code is RGB(128,128,128)

    Best Gray Color Codes

The best shades of gray depend on the context in which they are used.

For example, lighter shades of gray can be used as a neutral background color for websites and design projects, while darker shades can be used to create some wonderful contrast and depth.

Silver and charcoal are popular shades of gray in jewelry and fashion design, while slate gray is often used in home decor. Of course, the best shade of gray is also very much a personal preference!

    Why Is Gray So Popular?

When it comes to color psychology and how colors influence people’s emotions, it is well-known that the color gray is associated with balance, sophistication, calm, timelessness, reliability, and elegance.

Because of this, gray is a very popular color choice for everything from home decor to logos. In fact, gray is one of the most commonly used colors in branding and marketing because it is known to evoke feelings of professionalism and modern elegance.
