God’s track record is perfect
Imagine you’re about to make the biggest purchase of your life – maybe you’re buying a house or a car. Before you sign any papers, what would you do? You’d probably check out the seller’s reputation, right? You’d want to know: Do they keep their word? Can they be trusted? Have other people had good experiences with them?
This is exactly what King Solomon was doing in 1 Kings 8:56, but instead of checking out a car dealer, he was reflecting on God’s faithfulness.
Solomon had just finished building the magnificent temple in Jerusalem, and he was looking back over Israel’s history. As he thought about all the promises God had made to His people over the centuries, Solomon came to the conclusion that God’s track record was absolutely perfect.
Today’s verse comes from Solomon’s prayer at the dedication of the temple. It was one of the most important moments in Israel’s history. The people had finally built a permanent house for God, just as He had promised they would. As Solomon stood before the people and before God, he couldn’t help but marvel at how faithful God had been.
But Solomon wasn’t just talking about one or two promises that God had kept. He was talking about every single promise God had made through Moses – promises about land, protection, blessing, guidance, and so much more. Hundreds of promises made over hundreds of years, and not one had failed.
This wasn’t just ancient history for Solomon. It was proof that the God they served was completely trustworthy. And it’s not just ancient history for us either. The same God who kept every promise to Israel is the same God who makes promises to us today.

Today’s Bible Verse
“Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.”
1 Kings 8:56

Breaking Down the Scripture
Let’s take a look at each part of this powerful verse about God’s faithfulness.
“Not one word has failed”
This is an incredible statement. Solomon isn’t saying that most of God’s promises came true, or that God kept the important promises. He’s saying that not even a single word of God’s promises had failed. The Hebrew word for “failed” means to fall, to drop, or to be ineffective. None of God’s words fell to the ground unfulfilled.
In ancient times, when someone’s words “fell to the ground,” it meant they were empty, powerless, or false. But God’s words never fall to the ground. Every word He speaks has power and will accomplish exactly what He intends.
This tells us something amazing about God’s character. He doesn’t make promises He can’t keep. He doesn’t speak carelessly. When God says something, you can count on it happening exactly as He said it would.
“of all the good promises”
God’s promises aren’t just reliable, they are also good. Everything God promises to His people is for their benefit and blessing. God doesn’t promise things that will harm us or make our lives worse. His promises come from His heart of love for us.
The word “all” is important here too. It’s not just some of God’s promises that are good and reliable, it’s all of them. Every promise God makes is both good for us and certain to come true.
“He gave through his servant Moses”
Moses was God’s chosen leader who brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and led them toward the Promised Land. Through Moses, God made incredible promises to His people. He promised to make them into a great nation, to give them their own land, to be their God, and to bless them.
Many of these promises seemed impossible when they were first made. The Israelites were slaves with no land, no army, and no power. But God kept every single promise He made through Moses. The impossible became reality because God’s word is completely reliable.
By the time Solomon spoke these words, centuries had passed since Moses died. Generation after generation had seen God keep His promises. Some promises were fulfilled quickly, others took hundreds of years, but every single one came to pass exactly as God had said.
Faith in Action
Understanding that God keeps His word should transform the way we live and think. Here are practical ways to apply this truth:
1. Build Your Life on God’s Promises
Instead of building your security on things that can change or fail, build your life on God’s promises. His promises about His love, His provision, His guidance, and His presence are more solid than any foundation you could imagine. When you make decisions, ask yourself: “What has God promised about this situation?”
2. Study God’s Promises in Scripture
You can’t claim promises you don’t know about. Make it a habit to study what God has promised His people in the Bible. Write down the promises that speak to your current situation. Memorize them. Let them become part of how you think and pray.
3. Use God’s Past Faithfulness to Build Present Faith
Just like Solomon did, look back at how God has kept His promises in the past. Read Bible stories about God’s faithfulness. Remember times when God kept His word in your own life. Let these experiences build your confidence in God’s promises for today.
4. Be Patient with God’s Timing
Some of God’s promises to the Israelites took hundreds of years to fulfill, but they all came true. God’s timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t match our timing. Trust that God will keep His promises to you in His perfect time.
5. Pray God’s Promises Back to Him
When you pray, remind God (and yourself) of His promises. This isn’t because God forgets , it’s because reminding ourselves of God’s promises strengthens our faith. Pray things like, “God, You promised that You would never leave me, so I trust You in this situation.”
