WELCOME TO NOTEBOOK & PENGUIN

Hi, I’m Jess!

I have been self-employed for just over 17 years now so I completely understand the challenges, frustrations, joys, and rewards that come with starting and managing your own small business

I know just how important it is to save time and money especially when you are just starting out.  And I know exactly what it feels like to wear a lot of hats especially when it feels like there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done!

How Can I Help You?

I studied web design and development all the way back in the early 2000s.  Back then we had to code everything we wanted to display on our websites – A simple page with just the line “Hello World!” displayed on it had to be coded like this:

<html>
   <head>
       <title>An example webpage</title>
   </head>
   <body>
       <h1>Hello World</h1>
   </body>
</html>

A lot has changed since then!   It is now a hang of a lot easier to build websites and web pages even if you don’t know a thing about coding.

Over the years I have met and worked with many small business owners.  If you are like them, you might want a website but your budget is tight and you might not have the funds to hire an expensive web design firm.

At the same time, you might also feel overwhelmed by the idea of building a website on your own especially if you aren’t particularly tech-savvy.

Another problem that many small business owners face is updating their websites

Sometimes all you might need is a small update to your website but your small updates might not be a priority for your web developer or high hourly rates are holding you back from making the updates you need.

By building your own website you take back control of your information and your time.

All in all, building your own website is a great option especially when you are starting out.  And I can help you if:

  • You don’t have the budget to hire a web developer
  • Aren’t particularly tech-savvy
  • Don’t know where to start
  • Feel overwhelmed by the many website design options available out there
  • Would like to be able to update your website yourself
  • Have control over every aspect of your online presence

But building a website isn’t the only thing that is needed if you want to promote and grow your business online.

Sometimes you might want to send out a regular newsletter to your customers.

Or perhaps you would like to build a presence on social media where you can share pictures or information about your products and services.

And sometimes you just want to be found if someone searches for the type of business you own on Google.

I can help you with these things as well!

And just because you are working on a budget doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality.  I can guide you toward the best products and services that will grow with your business as it grows.  And many of these quality products and services you can use for free which gives you time to grow your business before upgrading to paid options.

Here you will find step-by-step guides and tutorials to help you get your small business online easily.

I try to make each article and guide easy to understand with easy-to-follow steps.   I will also try to give you reasons why you might need certain services, products, or options when it comes to website hosting, domains, website design, etc so you can decide and choose the best options for your business.

And if you would like a tutorial on something in particular that I haven’t added to the site yet, feel free to drop me a message, I would love to hear from you!
