During a lunch date with friends recently, the subject of Christian vision boards came up and as I’m sure you can imagine, it was a rather lively discussion!
There was a lot of debate among us on whether Christian vision boards are biblical and whether, as a Christian, you should be creating and using vision boards.
Since that discussion, I thought it would be fun to create an article to explore what the bible says and to give you my thoughts on the idea. I would love to hear what you think so please drop your thoughts in the comment section below!

What Exactly Is A Christian Vision Board?
A Christian vision board is simply a visual representation of someone’s goals, plans, desires, and prayers.
It is a creative way to help you become more intentional and prayerful about God’s will for your life and what you want to achieve.
It’s also a great way to remind yourself about God’s promises for your life.
Think of it as a prayer journal come to life! A prayer journal with pictures, scriptures, prayers, and promises all in one powerful visual format to help you stay focused on your goals!
Of course, it’s important to remember though that a Christian vision board is not a replacement or substitute for prayer, but rather a tool to help you focus and enhance your prayer life.
What Does The Bible Say About Christian Vision Boards?
The Bible doesn’t specifically mention vision boards as a concept. It does however teach us that our thoughts and imagination have the power to shape our reality.
In Proverbs 23:7 it says, “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”
This verse reminds us that our thoughts and imagination have the power to shape our identity, our world, and our future. And this I think is where a Christian vision board would come in.

Vision boards help us to focus our attention and thinking on what we want rather than what we don’t want thereby living a more intentional life.
With this in mind, one of my all-time favorite verses about focusing your mind comes from Mark 11.24.
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.”
A vision board can help you to focus on what you ask for in your prayers helping you to believe that those prayers are being answered.

Another verse that is often referenced when talking about Christian vision boards and prayer journaling is Habakkuk 2: 2 – 3.
“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.”
This verse encourages us to write down our visions, hopes, and dreams and wait on God’s timing.

And finally, Proverbs 29:18 says:
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”
I think that this verse highlights the importance of having a clear vision and direction for your life which a Christian vision board can help you with.

Of course, it is incredibly important to always remember to seek God’s guidance and wisdom when it comes to the plans we have for our life and this should be the foundation of any Christian vision board.
Matthew 6.33 says:
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

In Proverbs 16:9, it says, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
This verse reminds us that while we can make plans and set goals, ultimately it’s God who determines our path through life.

Should Christians Create Vision Boards?
After going through the verses mentioned above (and others mentioned in this article), it is important to always spend time in prayer before building your board asking for understanding around the importance of:
- Writing down our visions and goals.
- Seeking God’s guidance and his provision for our lives.
- Having a clear direction and purpose.
- Praying and petitioning God.
Starting a journal can be a great way to get clarity on this!
Ultimately, only you can decide whether you should create a vision board for yourself. Using a vision board should always be an inspiring and positive experience so it’s important that you answer this question for yourself so that you are comfortable with moving ahead.

How To Create A Christian Vision Board Grounded In Scripture And Faith
It can sometimes be hard to know exactly what God’s will for our lives is. I have struggled with this a lot! So when it comes to making your vision board, it’s important to do it prayerfully.
Here are a few tips to help you get started.
- Start with prayer: Before you begin creating your vision board, take some time to pray and ask God for guidance and direction.
- Use scripture: Include scripture verses on your vision board that inspire and motivate you to achieve your goals. If you have a prayer journal, go back and find verses that have special meaning to you.
- Focus on God’s will: Remember that your vision board should be focused on God’s will for your life, not just your own wants and needs. Ask God to guide you as you create your board and to help you stay focused on what’s truly important.
- Choose a theme: Choosing a theme can make it easier to find the right verses and images to use on your vision board. I’ve included some ideas down below!
- Make it a tool for prayer: Use your vision board as a tool for worship and prayer. Spend time reflecting on your goals and desires, and ask God to help you achieve them.
- Make it personal and meaningful to you: Add pictures, scriptures, words, and decorations that have meaning to you. Bonus points if they make you feel happy, thankful, and inspired when you look at them!
Include Gratitude
Being grateful for what we already have is incredibly powerful so, as you make a Christian vision board, spend some time meditating on every good thing that you already have in your life.
Think about prayers that have already been answered and all the blessings in your life.
As James 1:17 says: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Christian Vision Board Prayer Idea
Before building your board, it’s a good idea to ask God for guidance and direction. If you don’t know what to pray for when planning and creating your vision board, here is a quick prayer to help you get started:
Dear God, thank you for the gift of vision and the ability to seek Your guidance and provision in my life.
Help me to create a vision board that reflects my faith, values, priorities, and goals.
Give me the courage to pursue my dreams and desires, and the wisdom to trust in Your goodness and sovereignty.
May my vision board be a reminder of Your love and provision in my life, and may I always seek to follow You and fulfill Your plans for me.
Amen.
