Galatians 3:28 devotional about unity in the church header

Faith That Creates Unity (Galatians 3:28)

We Are All Equal In Christ.

Think about all the walls that separate and divide people in our world – walls of race, money, gender, and more.

Sometimes these differences make us feel separated, uncomfortable, or even worse, afraid of each other!

But the Bible gives us a beautiful and powerful picture of a different way. In Galatians 3:28, Paul reminds us that because of Jesus, we are all equal and united, no matter who we are or where we come from.

God wants us to see beyond our differences to the heart of each person He created. When we truly understand that we are all one in Christ, we begin to live differently. We start to notice when someone feels left out, and we make room for them. We learn from people who are different from us, and we grow stronger together.

Building bridges isn’t always easy. Sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone or let go of old ideas. Sometimes we have to be the first one to reach out, to smile, or to say hello. But every time we cross a divide to connect with someone else, we show the world what God’s love looks like.

Today’s Scripture

“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
(Galatians 3:28)

Breaking Down the Verse

Let’s look at this verse step by step so it’s easy to understand.

  • “There is neither Jew nor Gentile…”
When Paul wrote these words, Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews) had a history of deep division and even hatred for each other. But in Jesus, those differences no longer matter. Jesus made a way for everyone to be God’s family.
  • “slave nor free…”
In Paul’s time, society was divided by social class. Some people were free, and some were slaves. But Jesus makes everyone equal in His eyes. Your job or money does not make you better or worse than anyone else.
  • “nor is there male and female…”
In Paul’s time, women were often seen a less than men. However, Paul clearly tells us that Men and women both have equal value to God. Jesus welcomes everyone, regardless of whether they are a man or a woman.
  • “for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Our unity does not come from having the same background, the same job, or the same gender. It comes from belonging to Christ. When we follow Jesus, we become one family, united by His love.

Faith in Action

How can we live out this message and build bridges in our lives?

  • Make sure your church is a place where everyone feels accepted, no matter where they come from, what they look like, or what job they have.
  • Become friends with people who are different to you. Your faith grows when you get to know people who are not the same as you. Jesus loves all kinds of people, and so should we!
  • If you see someone being treated badly because of their race, job, or gender, speak up for them. Jesus wants us to stand up for justice.
  • Show your kids that God loves everyone. Help them make friends with children from different backgrounds.
  • Unity does not mean we are all the same. God made us different on purpose and we should celebrate those differences and the unique gifts each person brings!

Journaling Prompts for Deeper Reflection

  • Think about a time when you felt out of place. How did it feel? How would you treat someone who feels like that now?
  • Think about someone who is very different from you that you know or want to know better. What can you learn from them?
  • When have you seen division in your community or church? What could you do to help bring people together?
  • What keeps you from reaching out to people who are different? Is it fear, shyness, or something else?
  • How can you show someone today that they are loved and accepted by God just as they are?

Daily Affirmation

In Christ, I am a bridge-builder. Today, I will connect, not divide.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for making us all one in Christ Jesus. Help me to see every person, as someone deeply loved by you no matter their background, their job, or whether they are a man or a woman. Break down any walls in my heart that make me treat people as less than or different because of where they come from or who they are.
Fill me with Your love and help me build unity with others. Let my words and actions show that in Your family, everyone belongs. Thank You that in Jesus, we are all equal and accepted.
In His name, Amen.
