Jonah – The Prophet Who Ran Away (Jonah 1:1-3)
We All Sometimes Feel Like Running Away! If you grew up reading Bible stories, you probably know Jonah – the very reluctant prophet who ended up inside a giant fish!…
The book of Jonah is about a prophet who runs away when God tells him to go to the city of Nineveh and warn them to turn from their sin. Jonah gets on a boat going the opposite direction, but God sends a storm. Jonah tells the sailors to throw him overboard, and a large fish swallows him. After three days in the fish, Jonah finally obeys and goes to Nineveh. The people listen, they turn from their evil ways, and God forgives them. But Jonah gets angry that God showed mercy to his enemies, and God has to teach him about compassion.
In these devotionals from Jonah, you’ll learn about running from God, getting second chances, and how easy it is to have a bad attitude when God shows kindness to people you think don’t deserve it. It’s a short book with a big lesson about God’s patience – both with people who don’t know Him and with grumpy believers who forget how much grace they’ve received.
