Why Does the Bible Talk So Much About Being Thankful?
Good question! Here’s the short answer: Because gratitude changes everything.
When we’re grateful, we’re happier. We worry less. We notice the good things instead of only seeing what’s wrong. Plus, giving thanks isn’t just something nice we do it’s actually something God asks us to do.

The Most Popular Thanksgiving Bible Verses
The Bible is absolutely packed with verses about thankfulness. Like, hundreds of them! And they’re not just nice words to put on a decorative sign (though let’s be honest, they look great on those too). These verses remind us why we give thanks, how to give thanks, and who we’re really thanking when we count our blessings.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.“
This Bible verse sums up Christian thanksgiving and gratitude perfectly! Notice it doesn’t say “give thanks when everything’s going great.” Nope. It says all circumstances. The good days. The hard days. The “I can’t believe this is happening” days. Notice how it also says that this is the will of God – God wants us to give thanks!
Psalm 107:1
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
Short. Sweet. To the point. This verse reminds us that God is good – not sometimes, not when He feels like it, not when we’ve earned it, but always. His love never runs out, takes a break, or gives up on us.
Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
If you are feeling stressed or worried about something, then this verse gives us the perfect formula to overcome those negative feelings.
Prayer + Asking For Help + Thanksgiving = Peace
God is asking us not only to ask for what we want but also to acknowledge what He has already given us.
Psalm 100:4
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”
This one paints such a beautiful and inspiring picture. Imagine walking through the gates of heaven with a grateful heart, ready to celebrate and praise. That’s how we’re supposed to approach God, with thanksgiving leading the way.
Colossians 3:15
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
Just two words at the end: “Be thankful.” Simple, right? But these words are connected to something bigger – letting Christ’s peace be in charge of our hearts. When we’re thankful, peace follows.
More Beautiful Scripture About Gratitude
Psalm 95:2
“Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.”
Thanksgiving doesn’t have to be somber, quiet, or boring! Crank up the worship music. Sing out loud (even if you’re off-key). God loves it when we celebrate with joy.
Hebrews 13:15
“Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”
What does a sacrifice of praise mean? I think that it means we praise him even when we don’t feel like it. Even when life is hard and times are tough. I believe that’s when our thanksgiving means the most.
James 1:17
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
This Bible verse reminds us that every good thing in our lives is a gift from God. Every blessing, no matter how small, comes straight from him!
Ephesians 5:20
“Giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father.”
This one is so similar to 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Again, we are told to give thanks always. For all things. Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to start looking for and noticing all the things we have in our lives to be grateful for. You will notice that when you start becoming intentional about looking for blessings, you will find them everywhere!
