Create beautiful, meaningful Ribbon bookmarks with just a few simple supplies.
There’s something special about opening your Bible and seeing a Bible ribbon bookmark you made yourself – the ribbon you chose, the charms that mean something to you, the little details that make it uniquely yours.
I absolutely love these types of Bible bookmarks because they are so easy to make, they are gorgeous as gifts, and they are the perfect youth or women’s Bible study craft.
In my previous article on how to decorate your Bible using Bible charms, I shared four different ways to decorate your Bible using Bible charms. This tutorial is diving deep into the first method – ribbon bookmark charms – because once you learn this one simple technique, you’ll be able to create endless variations.
Whether you want to add a single meaningful charm to an existing ribbon or create an elaborate multi-ribbon Bible bookmark with tassels and beads, I’ve got you covered. Let’s make something beautiful together!

DIY Step-by-Step Instructions (Video Below)
Step 1: Prepare Your Ribbon
If you’re starting with new ribbon, cut it to your desired length.
To prevent fraying: Apply clear nail polish to the cut end. This is especially important if you’re using satin or grosgrain ribbon. Let dry completely.
Step 2: Attach Your Ribbon Crimp Ends
Bend a small section of the ribbon end over and use your jewelry pliers to attach a ribbon crimp end to the end of your ribbon – this is where your Bible ribbon charm will hang.
Step 3: Master the Jump Ring
This is probably the trickiest part of any DIY Bible ribbon bookmark, but you’ll get it with practice:
- Hold the jump ring with pliers on each side of the opening
- Twist the ends away from each other (don’t pull apart!)
- Slide your charm onto the open ring
- Slide the ring onto your ribbon loop
- Twist closed
That’s literally it. Once you’ve done it a few times, you’ll wonder why you ever thought it was hard.
Step 4: Design Your Charm Arrangement
Now for the fun part! Choose which charms, beads, and separators you want to use and lay them out. Thread them onto your eye pins (or use butcher twine for a more rustic feel) and attach using your jump rings.
Here are some Bible ribbon ideas to try:
Single charm: One meaningful charm on a simple ribbon. Minimal and elegant.
Charm cluster: Multiple charms on one jump ring for more visual interest.
With beads: Add beads above or between your charms for color.
With tassel: Combine charms with a tassel for texture and movement.

Troubleshooting Common Questions
Q: What’s the best bible ribbon width?
A: This is very much personal preference. However, most standard Bible ribbons have a width of about a 1/4 inch. I personally prefer something a little wider.
Q: Can I use lace ribbon?
A: Yes! Lace ribbon Bible bookmarks are gorgeous and feminine. Just be extra careful with fraying – lace may need sealing too.
Q: Can I make these for gifts?
A: Absolutely! These make wonderful personalized gifts for friends. There are also awesome options as Bible study crafts for women or youth group activities.
