Celebrating The Holy Spirit.

Have you ever wondered about the Holy Spirit? What exactly is He? A mysterious force? A warm fuzzy feeling during worship? Or something more?

For many believers, the Third Person of the Trinity is the most misunderstood of all three, and it can sometimes be difficult to relate to Him because He seems so mysterious.

Some people think of Him as an “it”, but it’s important to know that the Holy Spirit is a person – a He. He’s God living right inside you, your constant companion, guide, teacher, and friend.

This August Bible reading plan takes you on a 31-day journey to really get to know Him. Week by week, you’ll discover who He is, what He does, and how to walk with Him every day.

Why Knowing the Holy Spirit Changes Everything

Without a clear understanding of who the Holy Spirit is, the Christian life can feel like trying to assemble furniture without instructions or power tools. You might have all the pieces, but you’re still left frustrated trying to figure things out in your own strength.

The Holy Spirit is like our divine instruction manual and our power tool all rolled into one! He is the one who:

  • Makes Jesus real: He takes the historical truth of Jesus and makes it real in our hearts (John 16:14).
  • Brings Scripture to life: He transforms God’s Word into something deep and personal, not just a book to be read (John 14:26).
  • Empowers us to change: He helps us to live in a way that reveals Christ’s character within us (the fruit of the Spirit), and He does it in a way that our own willpower never could (Galatians 5:22-23).
  • Guides our steps: He leads, prompts, and directs us into God’s will, often in ways that surpass our understanding (Romans 8:14).

Getting to know Him is the key to moving from a life where we strive every day to a life of trust and faith.

To Know A Person You Must Spend Time With Them

This Bible reading plan for August is designed to help you encounter the Holy Spirit in a new and meaningful way each day.

Here’s a simple way to get started:

  • Invite His Presence: Begin with a short prayer. Simply ask, “Holy Spirit, please speak to me through Your Word today. Open my eyes and my heart to understand who You are.
  • Read and Copy: Write out the day’s verse(s). This slows you down and helps you see details you might otherwise miss.
  • Observe and Reflect: Ask simple questions:
    • What does this passage reveal about the Holy Spirit’s character, role, or work? (e.g., Is He a comforter? A teacher? A guarantee?)
    • What is the promise or command associated with Him in this text?
    • How does this truth apply to my life right now? Is there a lie I believe that this truth corrects? An area where I need His power?
  • Pray: Talk to the Holy Spirit directly. Thank Him for what you’ve learned. Ask Him to make that truth a reality in your life. If the passage is a command (e.g., “Do not grieve the Spirit”), ask for His help to obey it.

A Week-by-Week Overview of August’s Scripture Plan

Week 1: The Promise & The Person.

We start at the beginning, looking at the Spirit’s work from Creation through Jesus’s promise that He would send a Helper. This week establishes His divine identity and personal nature.

Week 2: The Work of the Spirit.

What does the Holy Spirit actually do? This week, we take a look at His work: He guides us into truth, teaches us, helps us pray, reveals God’s thoughts, produces spiritual fruit in us, empowers us for our missions here on earth, and gives us life.

Week 3: The Spirit in Us.

This week, we explore how the Spirit of God lives within each of us. We are His temple, and He leads us from within.

Week 4: Walking in the Spirit.

This week focuses on practical day-to-day living: what it means to live by the Spirit, set our minds on Him, His gifts, and how to embrace the transformation He brings to our lives.
