Why Trusting God in Difficult Times Can Be So Hard

If we’re honest, a lot of the time when life falls apart, our first reaction usually isn’t to calmly trust God. Sometimes we panic. Sometimes we worry. Sometimes we try to fix everything ourselves. Sometimes we even wonder if God even sees or cares about what’s happening.

The good news is that God isn’t disappointed by our fear, anxiety, or questions. Over and over in Scripture, we see people crying out to God in pain, confusion, and even anger. And God doesn’t turn away from them. He meets them right there, right in the middle of their struggles.

What we’ll be Exploring This September

Week 1: God Is With You
We start with the most important truth of all – you are not alone and God will never give up on you. Even when it feels like God is silent or distant, He is still right there with you.

Week 2: Lament, Honesty, and Bringing Your Pain to God
This week gives you permission to ask the real, hard questions and to speak to God honestly. To ask “How long, Lord?”, and to stop pretending everything is fine.

Week 3: God’s Strength in Your Weakness
When you feel like you have nothing left to give, this is often when God works most powerfully.

Week 4: Hope, Perseverance, and God’s Faithfulness
We end the reading plan off with hope – not fluffy optimism, but real, grounded hope that God is still there and working, even when you can’t see it.

A Simple Way to Use This Reading Plan

1. Pick a quiet moment. Even five minutes.

2. Read the day’s verse. Write it out if you have time – doing this will give you 31-days of scripture in your journal or notebook that you can go back to whenever you are going through a tough time and need a reminder that God is still there!

3. Ask yourself one question: What does this verse tell me about God or about me?

4. Talk to God like a friend. Tell Him what you’re really feeling. Be honest and open. Don’t try to pretend that things are okay when they aren’t.
