Your Work Matters More Than You Think.

Work is a really big part of our daily lives. Whether you work at a job, run a business, study, raise children, clean the house, or care for others – work takes up a huge amount of our time, energy, and attention. But for a lot of us, we have mixed feelings about it.

Some days work feels meaningful. Other days, it can feel exhausting, frustrating, repetitive, or unnoticed, and sometimes we wonder if what we do really matters to God at all.

But when we open the Bible, we see something important: Work was never meant to be a punishment.

From the very beginning, God gave humanity meaningful work to do. He created us to build, care for, create, serve, and contribute. Throughout Scripture, we see that God cares not only about what we do, but how we do it – with honesty, integrity, diligence, generosity, and rest.

Our reading plan for October is designed to help you see work through a biblical lens.

Over the next 31 days, we’ll explore Scriptures that teach:

  • Why God created work
  • What it means to work wholeheartedly
  • The importance of rest
  • How work and generosity connect
  • And how to trust God as our provider

These Bible verses teach us to honor God faithfully in the ordinary parts of our everyday lives – some readings may encourage you, others might challenge you, but I hope that by the end of the month, you will learn to approach your work in a healthier, more God-centered way, knowing that God sees your effort, even if nobody else does.

October Bible Reading Plan About God And Work

Why Work Feels So Hard Sometimes

Even though work was created by God, that doesn’t mean it always feels easy or fulfilling. Some people feel overwhelmed and burned out.
Others feel bored, unnoticed, underpaid, or stuck in work they don’t enjoy.

Sometimes work can become an idol. Sometimes we avoid it altogether. Sometimes we tie our worth to being productive and feel guilty when we rest.

And sometimes we’re simply just tired!

The Bible doesn’t ignore these struggles. It speaks honestly about feeling tired, the pressure, the frustrations, laziness, injustice, and the need for rest. But it also reminds us that God cares about every part of our lives – including our work.

What We’ll Explore This October

Week 1 – Work Was God’s Idea
We go all the way back to Genesis and see that God gave humanity work before sin ever entered the picture.

Week 2 – Working For The Lord
What would change if you imagined Jesus was your boss?

Week 3 – Honest Work, Honest Rest
God doesn’t want you burned out. This week looks at the balance between working hard and actually resting.

Week 4 – Providing, Generosity, and Trusting God
Your work provides for your family, allows you to help others, and reminds you that God is the ultimate provider.

Your job isn’t just what you do to survive or pay your bills. It’s one of the main places God gets to love the world through you – through your honest work, fair dealings, patience with difficult people, and excellence even when no one is watching. And perhaps this is what true worship actually is!
