Why Walking with Integrity and honesty Matters.
Work has always been part of God’s design for humanity right from the beginning. God himself is portrayed as a worker when He created the world with so much care and intention. He also placed Adam and Eve in the Garden and gave them tasks to do. But as the story or humanity unfolded, we were introduced to another element that shapes the quality and value of our work: integrity.
Integrity is about being honest, consistent, and true, no matter who’s watching. In Biblical times, business and labor operated in bustling marketplaces with scales and measures that could very easily be cheated. Some merchants shortchanged their customers, while others lied about what they produced. Even in those early centuries, God’s people stood out because they were known to be trustworthy and honesty. They knew that the God they served not only saw the outcome, but also the heart behind every transaction.
As we read the Bible, we see that this call to integrity hasn’t changed. It’s just as important today. In a world where “cutting corners” is often celebrated, God invites us to something better: working with heart, honesty, and truth.
The Scripture
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”
Proverbs 10:9

Breaking Down Proverbs 10:9
Solomon, the writer of most of Proverbs, was known for his wisdom and he spent most of his life teaching his people how to live well and honor God in everything. In ancient Hebrew, the word for ‘integrity’ is closely related to ‘completeness’ or ‘wholeness’ with the idea being that who you are on the inside matches the way you act on the outside.
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely”
Walking in integrity means letting our actions match our beliefs and being the being the same person regardless of whether people are watching you or not. According to Solomon, living this way brings a special kind of security. Why? Because if you aren’t hiding anything, you have nothing to worry about. Your conscience stays clear. You sleep well at night because you’re not worried about secrets coming to light. Integrity builds trust with God, with your colleagues, with family, and even within yourself.
“Whoever takes crooked paths will be found out”
Crooked paths are shortcuts – those little lies or underhanded deals meant to help you get ahead faster. Solomon’s warns that even if you “get away with it” for a while, the truth has a way of surfacing. Sooner or later, what’s done in the shadows is brought into the light. The cost of dishonesty can be huge: broken trust, lost opportunities, and damaged relationships.
Solomon reminds us that God sees more than just our results – He looks for our character, our honesty, our willingness to act with integrity, even when no one else does.
Faith in Action
How do we walk out integrity in our everyday work – at the office, at home, in school, or wherever God has placed us? Here are a few simple ways:
- Be Honest: Tell the truth, even when it’s hard or it feels like it will cost you something. This could be on your taxes, with your boss, with your spouse, or in how you represent your work.
- Do What You Say: If you promise someone a job will be done by a certain time, do your best to deliver and if you can’t, let them know early.
- Be Transparent: When you make a mistake, own up to it. Hiding problems and mistakes usually just digs a deeper hole.
- Treat Others Fairly: Don’t take advantage of clients, customers, or coworkers. Pay what you owe, give credit where it’s due, and look for ways to help rather than harm.
- Choose the Long Path: Don’t be tempted by shortcuts that compromise your values. Doing the right things consistently builds a foundation for lasting success and peace.
Living with integrity doesn’t mean life is always easy and it might sometimes cost you opportunities or praise. But it will keep you safe – rooted in God’s truth, trusted by others, and at peace in your own heart.

Closing Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for being the source of all truth and for caring about the way I work. Help me to be a person of integrity – to speak honestly, act fairly, and make choices that honor You even when it’s difficult. Keep my heart pure, my conscience clear, and my steps straight. If I’m tempted to take shortcuts or hide the truth, help me to remember Your Word and trust Your way. Let my work be a light to others, showing them the difference Your love makes in ordinary life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
