Why Gratitude Changes Everything (Even When Life Is Hard).
Let’s be honest, gratitude doesn’t always come naturally, and some days it’s really hard to feel thankful. Especially if you’re going through a tough time, you’re feeling tired, are stretched thin, or perhaps dealing with something that just won’t go away.
But I think it’s important to know that Biblical gratitude isn’t about pretending everything is fine when it really isn’t. I don’t believe God wants to ignore our pain. Instead, Biblical gratitude has a way of changing how we see our lives. It helps us to slow down and notice God’s goodness in our lives. It reminds us that even in difficult seasons, He has not abandoned or forgotten us.
It’s more than saying “thank you”; it’s about the posture of the heart.
So this month, we are going to explore 31-days of Scripture that show you how thankfulness, gratitude and contentment can change your perspective, lighten your load, and help you find peace even when life isn’t perfect.

What Gratitude Actually Does For You
Science and Scripture actually agree on this one! Studies show that grateful people sleep better, have lower stress, and feel more connected to others. But the Bible knew this thousands of years ago 🙂
Here’s what a thankful heart can do for you:
- It shifts your focus. You can’t focus on your problems and count your blessings at the same time. Gratitude doesn’t erase hard things, but it stops them from being the only thing you see.
- It fights comparison. When you’re grateful for what you have, you stop wanting what everyone else has.
- It reminds you of God’s faithfulness. Looking back at what God has done gives you courage for what’s ahead.
- It lifts your mood. Thankfulness and happiness are best friends!
How To Build Gratitude Into Your Day
Try one or two of these simple things:
- Begin your day right. Before you get out of bed, take one slow breath and say “Thank you, God, for this day.”
- Mealtime thanksgiving. Before you eat, quietly name one good thing from your day
- Text someone. Once a day, send a quick “I’m grateful for you” to one person. It’ll make their day too!
- Pair gratitude with something you already do. Stuck in traffic? Think of three things you’re thankful for. Brushing your teeth? Name one.
- When you’re having a terrible day… try to find something to be grateful for, even if it’s something small or something that you would usually take for granted, like having a warm place to sleep.
