Our color matcher doesn’t just look at colors subjectively. It runs your hex inputs through three robust mathematical checks to calculate your overall compatibility score.

1. Readability & Contrast (WCAG 2.1)

The single most important factor of matching colors is readability. Our tool calculates the precise relative luminance of your chosen colors to determine their contrast ratio.

2. Color Wheel Harmonies

Color harmony is based on classical geometric positions on the color wheel. Our algorithm measures the angular distance (Hue) between your two colors, including complementary, analogous, and neutral.

3. Visual Comfort (Vibrancy Checker)

Have you ever seen bright neon green text on top of a bright neon hot pink background? Even if the contrast is mathematically acceptable, the colors “vibrate” and cause eye strain. Frequently Asked Questions

Do my colors have to pass AAA standards?

Not necessarily! WCAG AA standards are the legal requirement for most business and public-facing websites. AAA standards are great to strive for, but are typically reserved for sites focused heavily on data sheets, reading-dense documents, or public service accessibility.

Why do some contrasting colors still hurt my eyes?

This is called chromostereopsis (color vibration). It happens when highly saturated, vibrant colors on opposite sides of the spectrum (like red and blue) are layered together, causing the lenses of your eyes to focus on different wavelengths simultaneously. Slower saturation shifts can easily fix this.
